Choosing the Right Filter Media
Selecting the correct filter media begins with understanding the size of the contaminants you’re trying to remove. We supply polypropylene filter bags ranging from 1 micron to 300 microns, as well as a full assortment of poly-wound filter tubes commonly used in nickel plating operations.
For reference:
- Bacteria ≈ 2 microns
- Human hair ≈ 50 microns
- Coarse sand ≈ 500 microns
Smaller micron ratings capture finer particles. For example:
- To remove sand (~500 microns), choose a filter smaller than 500 microns.
- To filter out hair (~50 microns), select a filter smaller than 50 microns.
Recommended Micron Ranges
- Plating Solutions: Typically 5–10 microns
- Wastewater Applications: Typically 20–100 microns
